What is going on inside of us when we make decisions? What significance do the various parts of us hold in determining our behaviour and consequent outcomes. Frankly a staggering proportion of our thoughts and behaviours are commonly subconscious, be it reflexes, instinct or just mindless engagement. Understanding the micro expressions of fears, hopes and agendas in our initial reactions to situations gives sight into how well “we” are working as a team.
What is your agenda today? Be it on a day to day basis of performing household tasks, or the completion of homework or study. Or be it a desire on a grander scale, such as integration of manners, good will and integrity as core principles embedded into our daily actions. We all have itineraries for our day, however too often we are swamped with either overwhelming duties and burn out. Or a lacking sense of purpose and consequent aimlessness and panic. The percentage of time devoted intentionally towards our agendas that are established, reviewed and implemented during periods of rational and regulated authority. Compared to the percentage of time we are subconsciously or consciously working against such agendas. Is directly proportional to our life satisfaction, and is used to reinforce or debunk personal myths we hold about our character and competence.

What on earth am I talking about?
So there are parts of us some referred to as the “shadow” or “higher self”. That derive from the different experiences, interactions and exposures we face. Meaning our fears come from something, be it logic based such as heights, or irrational and based upon biases. The many parts of us that conclude our character all have an agenda. As so gloriously demonstrated in the movie “Inside out 2”, our emotions all have purpose. Disgust stops is form eating rotten food, sadness promotes empathy, and fear stops us from unnecessarily taking to tempestuous terrain.
Our thoughts are interconnected with our emotions and the beliefs we hold reflect our vulnerabilities, fears, hopes and dreams. Meaning in a frightening situation, or a situation resemblant of previous catastrophe, we begin assembling conclusions as a mechanism of protection and preparation. However, as mentioned above, often the assembled conclusions are served devoid of meaningful discernment or taken predominantly in the context of our biases. Meaning we make assumptions, take actions and experience outcomes that are the result not of our true agendas. But rooted in fear, and misaligned from our goals, hopes and dreams.

Understanding how fear communicates, how our conclusions can sound so seductive, and reassuring. Masked as revenge, or flags of independence and integrity. Often the initial responses we have to our shortcomings, or challenges. Simply do not have our backs. The voice telling you that you are not good enough, derived from fear of failure, desire for success and rooted in the agenda to succeed. May request absurd things from you, it will convince you to ration sleep in compromise for study. To ration food in compromise for being slimmer. Having the discernment to question our thoughts, trace them back to the core, and ask “who said that”. Is imperative to operating as a competent, reliable, whole person.
So who are the cast, in my next blog I will discuss in more detail the “shadow” which represents our fears, the distrust we demonstrate. We will cover the agenda of the shadow and perhaps attempt to create a template for resolution of disagreements that often occur between the shadow and higher self.
Love,
Amy.
